Internship Drive|IIT Madras conducts online | students secure 152 offers on the first day
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has conducted its first-ever online internship drive. The institute has collaborated with 20 renowned global marketplayers for the program.
The premier engineering institute is forced to conduct online internship drive amid Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown. The situation has forced students and institutes to switch to e-learning. IIT Madras collaborated with companies that interviewed students over video conferencing platforms during the online internship drive.
Among the 20 companies that participated in the virtual interviews, two international firms include Rubrik’s Software Development, based in the USA, and Jane Street’s Quantitative Researcher, Hong Kong. IIT Madras reported that these two organisations offered the highest compensation to interns.
IIT Madras conducted three student surveys and two surveys with companies that frequently recruited at campus drive. NV Ravi Kumar, advisor (internship) at IIT Madras said, “We had requested companies to be flexible considering that several of our students were in remote and far-flung locations where Internet connectivity may not be as good as in urban locations.”
Microsoft India has also offered as many as 21 internship offers on the first day of the drive. Other top recruiters at the internship drive include Google, Jane Street, and Rubrik.
The organising day-1 was about overcoming the challenges imposed by the limited infrastructure of students. The institute has prodded fair opportunities for students to secure an internship in their dream company. The internship program is mandatory as part of B.Tech and M.Tech courses besides Dual Degree students.
