IT Infrastructure Engineer I Overview
The IT Infrastructure Engineer I is responsible for planning, designing, building, deploying, and maintaining the IT infrastructure using the latest technology. Ensures that all the IT systems that support business of any size to function efficiently. Includes working with Internet connections, virtualization platforms, storage area networks, wireless and wired networks, virtual desktop infrastructure, business continuity/disaster recovery and load balance environments. Configure and install infrastructure components on networks and servers, ensure that the technical performance aspects in the infrastructure environment are optimized, including database, network, and application server performance. Employees in this job should be advanced in a couple of areas with general knowledge of the entire technology stack the team is responsible for.

IT Infrastructure Engineer III Overview
The IT Infrastructure Engineer III is responsible for planning, designing, building, deploying, and maintaining the IT infrastructure using the latest technology. IT Infrastructure Engineer I Responsibilities

  • Network Administration & Design: Following established procedures for documentation and change management. Install, configure, and maintain network switches, wireless access points, and supporting management, monitoring, and licensing systems. Patch and update network devices and infrastructure technology to ensure security vulnerabilities are mitigated in a timely manner while maintaining a highly available network. Rack and ready new server hardware for provisioning and un-rack and retire end of life hardware. Update procedural documentation and network diagrams. Perform network cable patching in Data Centers using documented standards and procedures.
  • Infrastructure Administration & Design: Perform infrastructure administration tasks such as installing a hypervisor, configuring, provisioning, and deploying VMs and VDIs.
  • Backup and Recovery: With supervision and using established procedures, perform backups using shadow copy or other real time technologies; disk to disk backups, cloud backups and tape backups. Using documented procedures, perform file restoration, as necessary.
  • Monitor, analysis, and response: Use hardware and software management tools for early identification of system problems and environmental hazards and respond according to documented procedures.
  • Disaster Recovery: Learn about and participate in Disaster Recovery functions.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance: Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Comply with District policies. Complete all required training. Maintain a working knowledge and comply with District safety procedures and specific safety requirements of this position, and those in accordance with applicable provisions of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC).

IT Infrastructure Engineer II Responsibilities

  • Network Administration & Design: Administration of the District s network environment including specific tasks such as installing, configuring, and maintaining network routers and load balancers. Troubleshoot potential issues and effectively communicate and address any problems throughout the development and day-to-day management of the District s IT network infrastructure. Administer, create, and maintain documentation pertaining to the hardware and virtual infrastructure, procedural documentation, and network diagrams. Monitor network performance and troubleshoot network issues. Work with more experienced team members or tech support as needed.
  • Infrastructure Administration & Design: Administration of the District s virtual compute environment and storage systems. Including specific tasks such as managing virtual pools and clusters, balancing resources, provisioning storage, and deploying virtual networking. Develop and maintain system documentation and configurations. Ensure appropriately limited access to this information. Troubleshoot potential issues and effectively communicate and address any problems throughout the development and day-to-day management of the District s IT infrastructure. Oversee, create, and maintain documentation related to procedures and configurations for the District s hardware and virtual infrastructure.
  • Monitor, analysis, and response: Use hardware and software management tools for early identification of system problems and environmental hazards and respond according to documented procedures.
  • Backup and Recovery: Administer, create, and maintain documentation pertaining to Backups and Recovery Procedures for Infrastructure systems/components. Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve storage and backup issues
  • Disaster Recovery: Assist every aspect of Disaster Recovery functions including performing Disaster Recovery testing tasks.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance: Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Comply with District policies. Complete all required training. Maintain a working knowledge and comply with District safety procedures and specific safety requirements of this position, and those in accordance with applicable provisions of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC)

IT Infrastructure Engineer III Responsibilities

  • Network Administration & Design: In coordination with the Enterprise Architect and Data Architect, perform planning and design work related to the network infrastructure. Verify network devices are patched and updated to ensure security vulnerabilities are mitigated in a timely manner while maintaining a highly available network. Oversee cabling in the IT Data Centers, ensuring that established standards best practices are followed by everyone in the team. Implement tuning and load balancing measures to proactively ensure secure, reliable, and highly available network operations.
  • Infrastructure Administration & Design: In coordination with the Enterprise Architect, perform planning and design work related to the virtual infrastructure. Implement measures to proactively ensure secure, reliable, and highly available infrastructure.
  • Disaster Recovery: Design for and maintain high availability and disaster recovery between multiple sites. Develop policies and solutions for disaster recovery needs. Oversee physical and virtual File storage and Disaster Recovery processes. This includes SAN and NAS storage devices and virtual disk and disk group maintenance.
  • Monitor, analysis, and response: Use hardware and software management tools for early identification of system problems and environmental hazards and respond according to documented procedures.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance: Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Comply with District policies. Complete all required training. Maintain a working knowledge and comply with District safety procedures and specific safety requirements of this position, and those in accordance with applicable provisions of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC).

Qualifications
IT Infrastructure Engineer I, II, III Education
Equivalent experience (year for year) may substitute for required education.

  • Bachelor’s Degree B.S., B.A.) in a Computer Sciences field required.

IT Infrastructure Engineer I Experience

  • 1+ year experience in network and infrastructure administration, and backup and recovery experience. preferred.

IT Infrastructure Engineer II Experience

  • 2+ years Related experience performing network and infrastructure administration responsibilities as an IT Infrastructure Eng I, or closely related experience. required.
