This high-impact solution accelerates the delivery of benefits to Veterans and their families. #Veteran_First You’ll work as part of a collaborative, agile team using Python and modern AWS services to build microservices, data pipelines, and automation tools that power one of the most meaningful missions in government IT.
Responsibilities: Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs using Python (FastAPI, Flask, etc.) deployed in AWS.
• Develop and operate microservices that integrate with AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, S3, SNS/SQS, and CloudWatch.
• Collaborate with application teams, Platform, and delivery partners to deliver secure, scalable, and cloud-optimized integration solutions.
• Write and maintain automated unit and integration tests; Support CI/CD pipelines and containerized deployments using GitLab, Docker, and Kubernetes/ECS.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, contribute technical insights, and provide clear effort estimates.
• Troubleshoot cloud workloads and optimize services for performance, scalability, and compliance.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). 6-8 years of professional software development experience. 4+ years of hands-on Python development experience. Strong production experience with AWS, including deploying, monitoring, and supporting cloud-based applications. Proficiency with key AWS services, such as: Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, SNS/SQS, IAM Solid understanding of cloud-native design patterns, microservices architecture, and REST API design.
Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and Git-based version control. Ability to write clean, maintainable, and testable code following secure coding best practices.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with FastAPI, Flask, or Django frameworks. Familiarity with container tools (Docker, ECS) and CI/CD platforms (GitLab CI, Jenkins). Exposure to serverless and event-driven architecture patterns on AWS.
Experience with Agile development methodologies (Scrum or Kanban).
