The company

Small businesses move fast. Opportunities often don’t wait, and cash flow pressures can appear overnight. To keep going, and growing, SMEs need finance that’s as flexible and responsive as they are.

That’s why we built iwoca. Our smart technology, data science and five-star customer service ensures business owners can act with the speed, confidence and control they need, exactly when it’s needed.

We’ve already cleared the way for 100,000 businesses with more than £4 billion in funding. Our passionate team is driven to help even more SMEs succeed, through access to better finance and other services that make running a business easier. Our ultimate mission is to support one million SMEs in their defining moments, creating lasting impact for the communities and economies they drive.

The team

This is an opportunity to lead the commercial team at the heart of a key new customer acquisition channel for our business. We work with a large network of brokers who connect us with SME customers looking for business finance. The channel is made up of three key functions:

  • Commercial: Providing the crucial insights that power our decisions and fuel channel growth, including maintaining up-to-date and accurate reporting

  • Relationship Management: Building and nurturing relationships with our broker network, including running events and marketing.

  • Operations: Ensuring the smooth and efficient onboarding and servicing of brokers and their customer loan applications

The role

We’re looking for a leader for the Commercial part of the Broker team. You will be responsible for a proactive, data-driven approach to growing the channel and empowering the Relationship Management and Ops parts of the team to serve our broker network in the best possible way. If you have experience running a growth-focused team and a passion for using data to make smart decisions, you will thrive in this role.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will be:

  • Own the Commercial Toolkit: Draft, negotiate, and execute commercial arrangements with our brokers; oversee our commission strategy, including financial modelling and contract terms. Proactively engage with all parts of the broker team and measure the ROI of their initiatives; and identify opportunities for performance improvement.

  • Build a High-Performing Analytics Team: Lead and mentor a team of Commercial Analysts, guiding their development and prioritising their output to deliver the critical performance insights that inform the channel strategy.

  • Democratise Data for Impact: Go beyond basic reporting; oversee the building and scaling of the channel’s data infrastructure, translating complex data into actionable tools that empower Broker Ops and Relationship Management to boost efficiency and drive profit growth.

  • Champion Broker Customer Conversion: Act as the commercial lead for optimising conversion rates, collaborating with other parts of the business to analyse the user journey, identify high-impact opportunities, and troubleshoot complex conversion issues.

  • Support Tech Prioritisation: Serve as the key commercial stakeholder to our dedicated ‘Broker Tech’ team, running point on analysing the potential and actual P&L impact of all new product features and platform changes.

  • Champion a Test-and-Learn Culture: Collaborate directly with the strategy team to design and execute sophisticated experiments, rigorously measuring the ROI and impact of new initiatives to fuel data-driven decisions.

  • Enhance Our Competitor Intelligence Engine: Oversee the gathering, structuring, and sharing of crucial market intelligence, ensuring broker feedback directly influences wider business strategy where needed.

  • Represent the Business: Be the face of our business at key industry events, conferences, and broker events, building and maintaining relationships with key individuals, brokerages and lenders across the UK.

The requirements

Essential:

  • At least 5 years of experience in a strategy or commercial role, either at a top-tier consultancy or within a tech or finance company.

  • An analytical mindset with a strong academic background, such as a STEM degree, and a history of applying this expertise in a professional setting.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to challenge the status quo and propose innovative, well-thought-out solutions.

  • A proven ability to acquire and grow commercial relationships, consistently hitting ambitious growth targets that drive an increase in gross profit and ROI.

  • A “doer” who is not only a great strategist but also comfortable with hands-on implementation, working across the business to bring projects to fruition.

  • A flair for turning complex data into actionable insights using business analytics tools like Looker or Tableau.

Bonus:

  • Proficiency in Python or SQL, or a strong desire to learn on the job to leverage our extensive data.

  • Experience in leading and inspiring teams to achieve excellence.
