1. Whatโs This Job Really About?
About the role The Senior Integration, API & Automation Engineer is a hands-on technical lead role responsible for shaping and executing Rubrikโs enterprise API, integration, and AIโdriven automation strategy . Broadly, the role will focus on designing, building, and governing secure, scalable APIs and integrations between our core business platforms and thirdโparty systems (e.g., ERP, HCM, CRM, data platforms), while mentoring engineers and driving best practices across the organization. In addition, this role will help us embed AI capabilities (LLMs, Claude, decisioning services, intelligent workflows) into APIs and business processes to improve reliability, productivity, and insight. You will work closely with senior business stakeholders, application owners, security, data, and IT teams to define APIโfirst, AIโaware integration patterns and standards that deliver robust, secure, realโtime and batch integrations using REST APIs, webhooks, messaging, fileโbased interfaces , and AI services. This role will primarily leverage MuleSoft Anypoint Platform (or similar iPaaS) for APIโled connectivity and sits within the Enterprise Integrations & Intelligent Automations team as a keyโฆ
As a Senior Integration & Automation Engineer, youโll be writing real code that real people use. Youโll build features, fix bugs, review teammatesโ code, and help keep systems running smoothly. Itโs hands-on work paired with design discussions โ youโre not just coding in isolation. Youโll get feedback, learn quickly, and own the stuff you build from start to finish.
This role works well for freshers who want to learn fast and early-career folks ready to go deeper. You donโt need to know everything โ you just need to be willing to learn and a solid grasp of the fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, one programming language).
2. Why Rubrik and Why Now?
Rubrik is a serious tech company. Your code goes to real users. Thatโs good news for you: fast feedback, clear expectations, and actual impact. Youโll work with experienced people, get regular code review, and see how production systems work โ invaluable experience for your career.
Bangalore, India is a tech hub with a real community of engineers. Meetups, peers to learn from, and plenty of other job opportunities. That matters for your learning and your future options.
3. Day-to-Day: What Youโll Actually Do
Hereโs what a typical week looks like:
- Build features: take requirements and turn them into working code.
- Write tests: make sure your code works, and that future changes wonโt break it.
- Code reviews: get feedback from teammates, and give feedback on theirs. One of the best ways to learn.
- Fix things: investigate bugs, look at logs, and keep systems running smoothly.
- Talk with others: work with designers, product managers, and other engineers to align on what needs doing.
- Document your work: write notes so others (and future you) can understand what you built and why.
4. Skills You Need (Or Should Be Learning)
- One solid programming language: Java, Python, C++, Go, JavaScript, or TypeScript. Know it well enough to solve problems without Googling syntax.
- Data structures and algorithms: Arrays, strings, maps, trees, graphs, sorting. And be able to think about whether your solution is fast and efficient.
- API design basics: How REST APIs work, how to design them, microservices fundamentals.
- Databases: Know SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL). Understand indexing and basic optimization. Bonus: know one NoSQL database.
- Cloud platforms: At least basics of AWS, GCP, or Azure. Docker. Git.
- Testing: Write tests for your code. Itโs not optional.
You donโt need to be an expert in everything. Being really good at a couple of things and willing to learn the rest? Thatโs what companies actually want.
5. Preferred and Bonus Qualifications
- Personal or open-source projects that demonstrate real, working software beyond coursework.
- Internship experience or hackathon participation relevant to the Senior Integration & Automation Engineer domain.
- Exposure to modern frameworks and tools aligned with Rubrikโs stack.
- Competitive-programming background or a strong profile on coding platforms.
- Clear written and verbal communication โ the ability to explain a technical decision simply.
6. Are You Eligible?
This role is for B.E/B.Tech/MCA/M.Tech graduates from 2024, 2025, or 2026. Usually you need 60% or 6.0 CGPA (exact cutoffs vary by company โ check the official portal). If youโre a fresher or have a few years of experience, apply anyway. Companies care about potential and learning ability, not just checking boxes. If you can solve problems and youโre willing to learn, youโre a candidate.
7. The Interview Process (What to Expect)
- Online Test: 2โ3 coding problems on data structures and algorithms. Timed. Usually 1โ2 hours.
- Technical Interview 1: Live coding. Solve a problem in a shared editor. Talk through your approach. Discuss complexity (time and space).
- Technical Interview 2: System design or project deep-dive. โDesign a URL shortenerโ or โTell me about a project you built.โ Same structure: problem, approach, trade-offs.
- HR Round: Questions about your background, what youโre looking for, why this company. Then offer discussion.
The exact format varies by company and role. Check the official portal for the current process.
8. Study Plan: One Month to Ready
Hereโs what actually works:
- Week 1: Review basics. Arrays, strings, maps, linked lists, stacks, queues. Solve easy problems every day. Get the muscle memory back.
- Week 2: Trees, graphs, recursion, sorting, searching. Move to medium problems. Start doing timed problems to get used to the pressure.
- Week 3: System design basics. Learn to talk about trade-offs. Pick one project you built and be ready to explain it inside out.
- Week 4: Mock interviews. Find a friend or use an online platform. Identify weak spots. Polish your resume. Stay calm.
One key habit: solve 2โ3 problems a day, every day. Donโt cram. Consistency beats intensity. When you solve a problem, donโt just move on โ read the optimal solution, understand why itโs better, and solve it again the next day from memory.
The other key habit: talk out loud while you think. Many people code in silence, then freeze in interviews. Practice explaining your approach. Record yourself. Treat communication as a skill to train, not a talent you either have or lack.
9. Money: The Real Numbers
Rubrik has not published a salary for this role. That is normal โ many employers only discuss pay once you reach the offer stage. Ask the recruiter for the range early so you do not spend weeks on a process that cannot meet your number. Either way, remember: CTC is not what hits your bank account. Your actual monthly salary depends on the split (base + bonus + stock + benefits), taxes, and deductions. A 12 LPA package might be 60k base + 2k/month bonus + PF deductions, which is different from 1L flat. Do the math before you celebrate.
Use our in-hand salary calculator to see what youโll actually take home each month. All numbers here are estimates โ confirm the exact details in your offer letter.
10. Where? And How to Work?
The role is in Bangalore, India. Work setup (on-site, hybrid, remote) varies by company โ check the official portal. If youโre relocating, factor in commute, cost of living, and the tech community. Bangalore, India has a good tech scene, which matters for learning and future jobs.

11. Ready to Apply? Hereโs How
The official apply button goes directly to Rubrikโs career portal. No fees. No tricks.
Apply on Official Company Career PortalBefore you apply, check these:
- Read the eligibility section above. Do you match?
- Have a clean, one-page resume ready. ATS-friendly (no fancy formatting).
- Know one programming language well and be able to solve a coding problem on the spot.
- Be ready to talk about a project youโve built.
12. What Youโll Actually Be Asked
Three types of questions come up in almost every interview:
- Coding problems (DSA): Arrays, strings, hash maps, linked lists, trees, graphs, sorting, dynamic programming. Your job: restate the problem, think out loud, write clean code, and explain the complexity (time and space). Interviewers care about your reasoning, not just getting the right answer.
- System design: โDesign a URL shortenerโ or โhow would you build a notification system?โ No perfect answer. The point is to show you can think about trade-offs, architecture, and scaling. Approach: clarify requirements, sketch the design, discuss options.
- Behavioral: โTell me about a bug you fixedโ or โwhen did you disagree with a teammate?โ Use the STAR method (situation, task, action, result). Keep it short, tie it to what you learned.
Practice 2โ3 problems a day. Donโt just solve โ study the solution, understand why itโs better, and redo it. This builds pattern recognition, which is what interviews actually test.
13. Mistakes People Actually Make (And How to Avoid Them)
- Coding without thinking: Take 2 minutes to understand the problem, clarify edge cases, and propose a solution before writing code. A wrong assumption is expensive.
- Staying quiet: Talk out loud. Explain your thinking. Interviewers canโt give credit for thoughts they canโt hear.
- Not discussing complexity: Always say the time and space complexity. Can it be better? Say that too.
- Bad resume: ATS systems filter resumes before humans see them. Keep it single-column, no fancy formatting, clear and quantified. One page is fine.
- Fee scams: No real employer asks for money upfront. Not Rubrik, not anyone. If someone is asking, itโs a scam. Apply only through the official link on this page.
14. Your Resume: What Actually Works
Your resume is scanned by ATS software before a human sees it. Use a clean, single-column layout. No tables, no images, no multi-column designs โ they break parsers. Include: education, experience, projects, skills.
For each bullet, include numbers: โReduced latency by 40%,โ โScaled system to handle 1M queries/sec,โ โShipped feature used by 50k users.โ This is what gets noticed.
One page if youโre a fresher, max two if you have experience. Proofread. Errors suggest you donโt pay attention. Include links to code (GitHub) or live projects. Use our ATS resume builder if you want it done right.
15. Your Career After This Role
Year 1: Get productive. Ship features. Write good code. Learn from code review. Build trust.
Years 2โ3: Go deeper in one area (backend, infrastructure, data, AI) while learning how systems fit together. This is what separates junior from mid-level engineers.
Further out: Senior engineers design systems, mentor others, and own outcomes. Some move into leadership. Some start companies. Some go deeper into a specialty.
The skills you build here โ ownership, disciplined code, production systems, design thinking โ compound across your entire career. Treat this role as a deliberate learning opportunity. Set goals. Track progress. Youโre not just working; youโre building.
16. Projects That Actually Matter
Better to have 1 solid project than 10 half-done ones. Pick a project that solves a real problem, uses relevant tech, and is complete: designed, built, tested, deployed. Keep it live and documented. Have a GitHub link ready.
Be ready to talk about it: What problem did it solve? Why those design choices? What would you improve? What did you learn?
Depth beats novelty: Hardening one project (adding tests, handling edge cases, optimizing, documenting) shows more real engineering than ten tutorial clones. This mirrors what the Senior Integration & Automation Engineer role actually is.
Bonus: open-source contributions. Even small, accepted PRs show you can work in existing codebases and do code review โ which is exactly what youโll do at Rubrik.
17. Protect Yourself: How to Spot Scams
Rule 1: Never pay money for a job. No registration fee. No โsecurity deposit.โ No training cost. Real employers donโt ask. If someone is asking for money, itโs a scam.
Rule 2: Apply only through official channels. The button on this page goes to Rubrikโs real careers portal. Donโt click links in random messages or emails. Go to the official website yourself.
Rule 3: Be careful with personal data. Donโt send your bank details or ID before youโre sure the offer is real. Confirm through the companyโs official email, not messages.
If you think youโve been scammed: Stop communicating, save the evidence, and report it. We never charge candidates, and neither does any real employer.
